Market Update

Perseus - Beadell - Genex - Gryphon

Good afternoon

well markets are telling us, that BREXIT-worries are a thing of the past! let´s hope, that this is right - even though I am fearing for the gold price to have an initial, negative repsonse. I hope, that this will be only a temporary blip within an overall, very positive trend.

The A$ has been a beneficiary of BREXIT-speculations, being a save heaven bet - but I think it also might stay relatively strong in the event of a surprise in the UK. The latest noise from the RBA has been rather hawkish, so short term interest rate cuts are probably not going to happen.

Metals have done rather well the last few days, despite some indications, that the mini China boom from earlier this year is calming down.

Gryphon - is falling victim to the renewed interest in Western African gold developers, receiving a friendly bid from Teranga. TGZ itself is not without it´s enemies - but given recent perfomance of it´s share price, it would probably be unfair to call this marriage one between ugly ducks! The GRY-assets are sizeable, and the management is very much unliked - so perhaps this is a deal to be done. But not everybody is happy with GRY´s assets, as they are split over numerous open pits - not 2- or 3 nice, big pits, as miners tend to like them. TGZ has been subject to some comments in the past, saying, that m´management is ripping the company off. I have no real pleasure in reading Annual Reports - but I could not find much evidence of this in the last one at least. TGZ is offering 0.169 TGZ for one share of GRY, valuing it at about 18.8ct vs current share price of 17ct.

Genex - advanced one step further by appointing UGL as the contractor to build it´s solar plant Stage1, for 50MW. The tender has been highly competitive, with 7 companies bidding. The large advances of solar energy over the last few years is indicated by the fact, that old solar plants in Australia received 1.60$/Watt production - that has decreased to 28ct/Watt for recent projects. The capital cost alone should be under 5ct/Watt. GNX-´s project is one of the larger ones, and hence, might be even cheaper. We will find out in the near future, with project financing the next big step, and commencement of construction during the 4th Quarter, and production late 2017.

The big one remains the hydro-project, for generating capacity of 450 MW! The stock got hammered over the last 2 weeks - obviously, their broker has handled the significantly oversubscribed placement at 16ct not very well, and the stock is trading just below that. Should be a good buying opportunity! The BFS for the hydro project is on target to be finished in the 3rd Quarter, and the very important government funding ( has been applied for just now ) will be announced in September.

Beadell - announced more good drilling results from AB1, which will deliver additional oxide-ounces. ( 13 with 10g/ 48m with 5g / 22m with 6.7g / 21m with 6g / 50m with 7.6g and so on ).The market is telling me, that the current Quarter is not going well - otherwise I cannot explain the fact, that the share price is fairly disappointing vs many other gold producers. The relatively strong , Brazilian currency of late is not helping costs - still, at 311 Mill A$ market cap the stock is cheap vs most others.

Perseus - the same could be said for PRU. The company is doing a 102 millA$ equity raising at 50ct - a 61 Mill$ placement, and a 1:10 entitlement to existing holders. The company is forecasting 222.000 oz of yearly production for 7.5 years from Edikan, at 865 US$/oz All-In-Site-Costs. If they can deliver on that, the stock is very cheap at current gold prices - but I have to admit, that the updated guidance for this half ( at the lower end of previously released ounces, and at the upper end of previously announced costs ) does not increase my confidence. Taking into account my expectation of a stay-in vote in England, I am a bit cautious and want to wait for the Quarterly Report , due next month. The company is currently ( and I should say: expectedly ) losing money - but AISC will fall from close to 1400 US$/oz this half, to around 1200 US$ next year, and 1000 US$ the year after.. But to invest more now, you have to be a believer! As I said above - I want to have some positive indications, that the grade problems are over - after that, I would be looking forward to some exciting exploration in Yaoure, for which part of this capital raising is being done.

Have a good evening

General - Crusader

Good morning

even though the gold price is holding up nicely, it feels a bit tired to me - that´s despite continuing inflows into the big gold ETF in the US.

I am leaving to Zurich later today - so different to the norm, I am finishing this update during the morning our time.

There is some value-hunting around in europe today - stocks are rebounding nicely eraly in the day, and metals also look like they will put on a halfway decent performance today

Copper production in Peru continued to rise strongly in April - but zinc production is under heavy pressure, increasing the shortage of this metal. I still believe, that zinc is by far the best base metal to own  - copper I fear is not looking sexy for 2016, and probably 2017, before demand catches up with new production.

Regis - continues to get good press, based on their recent exploration success just 2.5km South of their existing mine Garden Well. Several intersections of around 70m , grading 2.5g gold, are certainly üpromising for a sizeable maiden resource later in 2016. Currently, the average grade of production is only 1g/t. But as so many, Regis are currently fully valued, at today´s gold price of just under 1750 A$/oz.

Crusader - the company has started drilling in Brazil a few weeks ago - some ersults should be available this month - and I would expect some good headline numbers here, as most of teh early drilling has been infill into their very high garde ore body, to increase the confidence level. The resource has been infreed so far - gardes around 12g/t - so small, but extremely high grade. Drilling such a thing should deliver some spectacular results, and the market tehse days is certainly reacting to good exploration. The sleeper in the portfolio is definietly Borborema, with it´s large reserve ( at least large relative to CAS´s market cap of 34 mill A$ ). In the hands of a producer, something like Borborema should be valued at 100 Mill A$ or so = 100$ per oz of reserve. the company has done some -so far - limited work to optimize the old feasibility studies, and has hiked a new development plan, which is going for something like 80-90000 oz of yearly production, with AISC significantly below 900 US$/oz.

Jurunea is small at this stage - 30.000oz p.a., perhaps a little more - but it should be seen as a starter project within a potentially large resource, and should only cost 10-15 mill$ to bring into production.

Iron ore is washing it´s face, I believe. The company has a few startegic options here, and before they go into production at Juruena in 2017 ( I believe and hope ), I would not be surprised to see this asset being sold.

Have a good day

General - Newcrest - Paringa - Berkeley - Finders

Good afternoon

3 out of 4 polls have the POM´s exiting...and the market is obviously VERY worried about the potential impact...

Retail numbers in the US have been quite good....and the US equity market continues to outperform....

The North American markets are the only, main markets in green this year....Europe is down 10-15%....and good old Australia is just negative....

Not to forget : gold is up by nearly 22% - gold stocks up by more than 100%...performance sucks! But our stocks have become a bit lacklustre of late, and I have to admit, that I have been thinking about reducing my gold-exposure somewhat before the BREXIT-vote on the 22nd of June, as I still just cannot believe, that the English gonna do IT!

German 10-year Bunds are trading at negative yield for the first time in history! Absolutely crazy, when you think about it...Germany is getting money from YOU, if you give it credit!!! There was an interesting article in the FT today about what could be the "risk-free rate of return in the year 2016...is it the German Bund???? If yes, you got top continue buying equities with your ears pinned back - and even more so: gold....That´s what Ken Rogoff has told central banks to do!

Anyway...let´s stick to some micro-news...that´s easier!

Graphex - my first venture into Graphite listed today - nice one...80% premium! Very lucky....but as I said the otehr day: in relative terms, tehy are very cheap - and if the Chinese partners, who have signed an MOU ( which is not all that much ), and who will continue their techncial due diligence, sign up to something more meaningful, the stock is still cheap not only in relative terms, but also in absolute terms. It´s worth having in mind, what Elon Musk siad the other day, when he was confronted with the risk of not having enough lithium for his batteries: He said, that this would not be an issue, but that nickel and graphite would be much more important!

Anyway - having said all this, I have to admit, that I am playing the market here up to some degree....even though I believe, that the Graphex-project is one of the good ones around, and that the stock offers great risk-return, given the small market cap vs the quality of the resource ( and again - little word of caution: I have invested in gold- and base metal stocks for more than 30 years....I bought my first graphite stock 6 weeks ago!!!)

Finders - I am feeling much more comfortable here, and I know, that it´s cheap - but the damned thing just does not want to move, because it´s not fashionable! Markets are a peculiar thing! FND are now in real production of LME-copper cathode in Wetar...110t have been stripped within 3 days, from a project, which is planned to produce 28.000t p.a. at cash costs of below 90ct/lb...the project is obviously ramping up nicely, and for a proejct like this one, postive cash generation should tsrat very quickly.

Paringa Resources - as part of the bankable feasibility study, they have now completed the estimated for capex. Just 39 Mill US$ are required vs a previous estimate of 44 mIll US$ for the No.2 mine ( which will be first to be developed ), and which is going to produce 1.8 millt of coal p.a. The No.1 mine is planned to produce 3.8 millt , but due to the big task to get financing for a small company like PNL, will be developed once No.1 is up and running. The company is in "continued discussions with potential financiers and have received exceptional feedback". Still - this is not going to be easy - but given the relatively small amount needed, sounds well possible! The company has also indicated, that due to lower employment costs etc, operating costs will also be lower than planned. The BFS is due in the Sept-Quarter, financing and start of construction is planned for 2nd Q 2017, production for 2018.

Berkeley - have now started a large exploration program at Zona 7, and at a target just 5km North. I think the chances are very high for them to come up with some exciting stuff here -  very limited drilling below the existing resourcve has already come up with the goods, and the second target has had some good intersections from historic drilling. The market in London ( and that´s where the stock now has the highest turnover generally ) is making a new high today! Nice one!

Newcrest - Gosowong in Indonesia, which had a seismic event early in the year, has been completely reopened now - but it will need a few month to ramp up to full production. The company has stated, that production is expected at the bottom end of guidance for this mine, for the year 2016. I think the market had expected this.

Just an interesting note to finish, as highlighted by my friends from Investec : The Sino Iron project in Australia, owned by CITIC, is now in production! This is great news for them! Originally expected to be on stream in 2011, full production is now expected in 2018...after 12 bill US in spending, vs original budget of 2.5 bill.... Mining is no easy game, as many incl myself have found out many times -but this got to be a negative record, and in percentage terms, is even worse than Anglo´s experience in Brazil!

Have a nice evening

General - Oceana

Good afternoon

surprising deal today - Microsoft taking over Linkedin for 26 Bill$ or a near 50% premium to last price....

China with important numbers today: FAI up by a disappointing 9.6% last month; retail sales up by 10%, and Industrial production up by 6% - pointing to GDP growth of just under 7%. Overall, some reasonable numbers - but the Yuan had a weak day, still.

Equities in Europe still under pressure from BREXIT-talk....metals steady on average ( copper pretty strong ), and gold powers ahead - also in A$ terms now, as it´s trading at 1733 A$/oz this afternoon - only 25$ shy of its 5.year high.

Gold stocks in the States, as measured by the GDXJ, are now up by 111% this year - we might need a breezer here - and I am not really sure, whether physical gold can break the recent high of 1300 US$ in the first attempt....we might need some consolidation first.

Australia had closed today.

Oceana - it looks like the media have overstated the problems the company might have. San Salvador I think is a problem -.but probably there is nothing in the share price for it anyway. The comments of the incoming Philippino prime minister seem to be targeted mainly at nickel ore producers, not so much at others like OGC, who have not had any problems at all with their mine.

You have a nice evening!

General - Oceana - Foran Mining - Chalice

Good afternoon

everybody is talking about BREXIT...and markets are clearly worried! I wonder, how much the current strength of gold might have to do with BREXIT-fears...Holdings of the gold ETF hit a new, recent high....But I sold some gold yesterday at my gold dealer here in Munich, and they told me, that their business is very quiet in the moment!

I just cannot believe, that the English voter is so stupid toe xit - but who knows?????? The polls are very close....For England, it would be desaster, in my opinion - but the Euro would definitely crack further, and might actually break up on a BREXIT!!

German 10-year bond yield is now at 0,024%!!!!

The mad run for lithium- and graphit stocks continued today....Magnis, Volt, Syrah, Altura ( trading at 26ct, following 20 mill$ capital raising + share purchase plan at 20ct! ), all with new highs today....

Copper seems on it´s way to test recent lows...trading just above 2$/lb....while the erst of the base metals are looking a bit better again...Especially zinc looks like finishing at a fresh 11-month high...It´s up by 36% today in A$ terms, vs the lows in 4th Quarter 2015. Since the big times in 2007, it has traded higher than today for 2-or 3 month only!

Oceana Gold - had their AGM the otehr day, and ran into a very unfriendly bunch of NGO´s, beating them up on their activities in El Salvador....Not really sure, how much that matters - but at a time, when the new Philippine Premier is beating up the inmdustry, not a nice thing to have to deal with. A few voices from the Philippines wre also heard at the AGM - equally unfriendly....not good!

Foran Mining - saw a newspaper article, where a spokesman from Hudson Bay ( zinc smelter 80 km from Foran´s asset ) was questioned by anxious locals about the future of the smelter, if it runs out of it´s biggest ore source in 5 years time, and another, smaller one in 3 years time. This is the big play for Foran - Hudson Bay most probably has a to do a deal with Foran - whether that´s a takeover, or helping them into production. Foran have an indicated & inferred resource of 25 Millt with 13.5%ZnEq, or about 1 Millt of zinc and 400.000t of copper. As you know - I have a small position here.

Chalice Gold - completed the sale of their Canadian gold asset to First Mining Finance Corp in Canada today, for 32.26 Mill shares in FF ( tarding at 81ct today - so the transaction is worth 27.7 Mill A$ pre-tax, or or approx 25.8 M;ill A$ after tax. Thshares need to be held for at least 4 month. The cash backing is about 62 Mill A$ or 21.8ct/share as at today . The shares, trading at 16ct offered, are certainly too heavily undervalued - and the management under Tim Goyder have proved over the years, that they are not wasting shareholders money ( Tim owns 15.5% of Chalice himself ). If anything, and in hindsight, their only mistake has been to not buy more assets, when things were cheap!

I fear not much else to report today - so you have a nice weekend, and enjoy the ride in gold!
